Teresa Colombi (LudoTIC) introduces the Telecom Valley UX-CX working group

Telecom Valley, one of the Labex' partners for innovation and technological transfer issues, launched in early 2017 a working group dedicated to a human-driven conception of digital systems and services. This working group and our Labex entitled "User-Centric Networks" share obvious common interests. Teresa Colombi, Managing Director of LudoTIC, who co-leads the working group with Sandra Belfils, user experience designer by IBM, explains their approach.
> How was the UX-CX working group born?
Telecom Valley supports since more than 7 years the activity of the little association “Use Age” oriented on Human Factors and UX. Indeed, despite its technical background, Telecom Valley is more and more interested in the “human side” of the technology. Sandra Belfils and I are very active in both associations. That is the reason we have taken the lead of the User-Experience (UX) and Customer Experience (CX) working group. In March 2017, our first meeting gathered almost 60 people from start-ups and big companies in the IT domain.
> What is the goal of this working group?
It aims at raising awareness of managers and technical teams of the importance of the human being as user / customer of products and services. Users must be taken into consideration right from the design stage of solutions and digital services, by studying their psychological, sociological, communications, and marketing facets.
> You lead LudoTIC, a spin-off of the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis. You are used to work with researchers, aren’t you?
We spent 2 years in the PACA EST Incubator, and in this context we started a close collaboration with the I3S laboratory. Since 2004 we worked with them as partner in R&D projects but also as a service provider in UX and Human-Computer Interface field. Their interest in UX is mainly about ambient IT, service design and IoT. Any kind of R&D project including Human Factors and Service Design is potentially interesting for us, in particular if it includes some challenges as Data Visualization, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality… We are used to submit ANR, FUI and H2020 projects, so if some researchers are interested in our skills we are always open to a discussion.
> What is the most important topic you are working on right now?
LudoTIC is active in several « critical domains » as E-Health, Industry 4.0 and Defense. We are starting an ambitious project aiming to record and analyze the user’s eye movement in order to adapt the UI and the context in real time. We also are service providers for some big administrations: in their projects there is lots of aspects to be taken into account, from the UX/UI design to the change management.
> What would you like to say to get researchers join the UX-CX working group?
Even if our group is currently composed only by professionals in the IT domain and industry, of course the point of view and contributions coming from a more fundamental vision will be welcome. Researchers and PhD students interested in Human Factors and UX are invited to join the group to contribute to our discussion, in order to bring it their vision and analyses. We aim to produce whitepapers about UX maturity, so their R&D approach in building our maturity model is more than welcome. The Telecom Valley UX-CX working group is in charge of the organization of the World Usability Day, on November, 9th.
